Prof. Li Jiaxin and Prof. Huang Zhigao’s Research Group Make Significance Progress in the Research on Si-C/TiO2 Anodes for Lithium Batteries

Silicon-based anodes are considered as one of the most promising candidates for next-generation high specific energy lithium-ion batteries due to their ultra-high theoretical specific capacity (3579 mAhg-1) and abundant resources. However, it is difficult to develop its application due to its low electrical conductivity, poor interfacial compatibility caused by violent volume expansion during the process of de-lithiation, and cracking or peeling of the surface of electrode materials.

Based on the previous foundation, the research group of Professor Li Jiaxin and Professor Huang Zhigao in FNU, together with Professor Zhang Qiaobao from Xiamen University, prepared silicon-carbon composites in kilogram-scale by the macro-preparation method of “liquid phase self-assemblymechanical fusionsolid-phase sintering”. The obtained silicon-carbon composite materials possess good physical and chemical parameters and electrochemical properties. The comprehensive characterization and good electrochemical properties reveal the enhanced mechanisms of electrical conductivity, interfacial compatibility and structural stability mechanisms induced by carbon cladding and the introduction of trace TiO2. In addition, the assembled pouch full cells of GSCT-c||NCM622 further confirm the practical lithium-embedded electrode material, providing important reference information for the development of silicon-based anodes. The paper was published in Energy Storage Materials under the title Efficient implementation of kilogram-scale, high-capacity and long-life Si-C/TiO2 anodes, with FNU as the first unit, students Xu Chengjie and Shen Liao as co-first authors, and Prof. Li Jiaxin, Prof. Huang Zhigao of FNU and Prof. Zhang Qiaobao of Xiamen University as co-corresponding authors.
